Kids love anything with engines and wheel. If you are thinking of buying a youth dirt bike then there are a few things you should consider first. I have been looking for one for my son and put together what I found to save you some time if you are looking as well. These are the most important things I found out though there is much more information available if you still have questions.

Safety should always be your number one priority. Keeping you child safe is the most important thing to consider and there are several factors to help with this. You should also tech you child to operate their bike safely and read all safety instructions that come with it including manufacturers dirt bike warnings.

One safety measure you will want to make sure and take is to have a helmet. These are a must have with any motorized vehicles that is driven by a child or teenager and more so if it only has two wheels. Helmets are pretty cheap but you will want to get a good one. This will help to protect their head if they do crash so you want it to be durable.

Good breaks are also an important safety feature. These help to stop quickly if needed and can help to prevent accidents, which lessens the need for things like helmets to begin with. The idea is to prevent the accident from occurring to begin with. If there is an accident then a kill switch is a must have. This kills the motor to prevent injury after an accident occurs including being drug behind if they fall off.

Slower speeds can help to prevent accident as well or at least the seriousness of the accident. The idea here is to find a top speed you can live with and that your child will be happy with. Kids would prefer the fastest dirt bikes available but as parents we know that isn't always a good idea.

The size of the bike plays an important role as well. You want a bike that is light enough for your child to handle, tall enough to ride properly, and capable of supporting your child's weight. This can be tricky if you are like me and have a child that is big for their age.

Of course you will want to look at prices. It will probably be best to get a new bike so that you know for sure everything is in good working condition and maybe an extended warranty as well. This is an expensive toy and hard to fix if it gets broken on the first outing. These are called dirt bikes for a reason: they are not street legal. You will also want to take into consideration weather or not your child will have a place to ride them.

A youth dirtbike might be wonderful for some children but you should also consider if your child is mature enough to follow rules and ride safely. Check out all of your options carefully and read all owners manuals. Remember safety should always be your first priority.
