If you have been considering taking off on the open road, or even off the beaten path for a camping trip on your bike, then perhaps there is a motorcycle accessory or two that you may want to consider taking along. It can be difficult trying to decide exactly what you need with the limited space that you have available in which to store things. The organizing and packing are very important, especially if you plan on using just the motorcycle saddlebags. If so, then it is that much more important to take only what is necessary.

Should you be wanting to add additional motorcycle accessories to your bike, for instance a luggage rack, then this will definitely grant you the freedom to include more items. The same holds true if you are going to pull a trailer. Naturally this will provide you with more room, but you'll still have to use caution as there will be various things you should be paying attention to when you have a trailer. You need to buy the lightest possible model that is compatible with your bike. It requires about 30 minutes to install the hitch under the bike's rear fender, however, care should be taken to ensure that it won't impact the operation of your motorcycle.

Try making a list of the gear or different items that you may need to bring with your first. For example, one very important motorcycle accessory that you may need if you are going to be sleeping outside is a tent, as well as some kind of ground cover, a sleeping bag and other related camping gear. This can be very helpful when you are trying to figure out if all the space you will need can be handled by the saddlebags alone or if you may need to add a luggage rack or tow a trailer. Perhaps you may want to consider having larger, custom motorcycle saddlebags made.

There are other things that you will want to check out and it is always advisable to own motorcycle cover in case of rough weather while you are camping out. If you are taking a long trip, then you may want to take along water and snacks for the ride in case you stop someplace and don't want to have to unpack everything, or in case you are going to be in an isolated area with no roadside diners. In addition, a motorcycle tire repair kit is definitely a useful item to have handy.

When you are making your list of items, one motorcycle accessory that you should include is a rain suit or at least a poncho in case you run into bad weather. If you are going to have to prepare your own meals, then you will also need some kind of cooking utensils and probably a pocketknife. Other things that are a good idea to have on hand are a flashlight and a first aid kit.
